Is an Officiant Required to Get Married in Colorado?

Accepted Answer

No. Colorado does not require a wedding officiant to sign the marriage license. However, many couples still opt to hire a wedding officiant to perform the ceremony and lead the day.

Question 6

Can a Friend or Family Member Officiate a Colorado Wedding?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Your friend can legally be your wedding officiant in Colorado. Since Colorado does not require an officiant's signature on the license, your friend can symbolically lead the ceremony while the couple signs their own license through self-solemnization. Alternatively, if you want your friend to sign as your officiant, they simply need to get ordained.
